Commons Café

The Challenge

With locally grown food, an eco-friendly building and a mission to give 100% of their profits back to Staten Island, Commons Café is anything but common! Based on this profile, VGS was commissioned to develop the restaurant’s identity, as well as their “look.” Commons’ knew they wanted the primary color to be yellow and were inspired by the design and architecture of Shake Shack in NYC. In addition, their outdoor patio needed to be ready for Live music in the spring and summer.

The Solution

Our in-house design studio, Studio D, developed a complete custom interior and exterior sign package. The LEED certified environmentally friendly package consists of fabricated freestanding and wall mounted brushed aluminum letterforms, colorful magnetic and dimensional menu boards, standard display fixture, and full 3M wall coverings of famous Parisian cafés. We also created a substantial mission statement speaking to the core desires of the owners of Commons and their commitment to community, as well as a custom fabricated “music note” railing on the stage.
